It is based on the private revelations of St. Faustina Kowalska. Jesus said to St. Faustina: "the Feast of My Mercy has issued forth from My very depths for the consolation of the whole world" (Diary 1517). Jesus gave us the Feast as a source of comfort and salvation for souls.
Divine Mercy Sunday is celebrated on the Second Sunday of Easter. We ask our parishioners of St. Faustina Catholic Church to wear red or white for the celebrations of the weekend of Divine Mercy Sunday.
A plenary indulgence can be acquired by attending a church on Divine Mercy Sunday “in a spirit that is completely detached from the affection for a sin, even a venial sin,” and participating in prayers dedicated to Divine Mercy, as stated in a 2002 decree.
